Hello Parents and swimmers,

Please read the attached information regarding Sunraysia Swimming winter training for 2017.

We hope to see swimmers from last year and some new ones join the various squads available.

·         Something new this year: We will be working alongside Sunraysia Academy of sport/Individual athlete support program. Although this is not suitable for all, we feel it is a positive program for our swimmers to develop and progress in their chosen sport. We hope that as the program develops other swimmers will be eligible in the future.

See attached information. (Strict criteria applies)

·         The SAS program is independent to the SSI swimming program. It is up to the individual swimmer to apply. All associated costs are the responsibility of the individual.

·          You must be in/or intending to be in the SSI State or Country squad.

·         The swimmer must demonstrate their commitment to competing in their chosen sport by representing their district in high level competition and /or representative squads.

·         Cameron  will watch over the progression of the SAS program and work with the swimmer to ensure they can attend the weekly supervised strength & conditioning sessions that SAS offer (on a Tuesday night initially 4-5pm then a Friday 4-5pm) this allows the swimmer to train with SSI in 4 other sessions.

Due to a strict time line all interested swimmers must contact Louise Tarrant at SAS and submit the application form ASAP. The closing date for the applications was 31st of March 2017, however they will still accept applications from our swimmers. Louise is also happy to answer any questions regarding the program.

Cameron is available to answer any questions regarding the state and country squads. For inquiries about the development squad please direct your email to Chris.

Hope to see you soon.

Regards, Christine Mazza. Co-ordinator/coach

From Cameron:

What a great 2016/17 summer season we have just been through. Some great achievements and memories, from VIC countries, SA countries, state, local and away competitions. One of the biggest highlights being the SA Countries Swimming Champs with a number of Sunraysia squad swimmers achieving some amazing results. But now we turn our focus to the 2017 winter season.

I hope everyone has had a well-deserved rest, with only a few weeks until training kicks off again (1st of May 2017), I am encouraging all swimmers to getting back into the water at least 2 days a week. This will start to build general fitness before the first training session and will make the first couple of week of training that little bit easier.

As most of you know I am not swimming this year, therefore I will be coaching on deck full time for the state and country squads. As a coach I will be hard but fair towards all my swimmers. I will strive to get the best out of the swimmer and hopefully they will bring the best out in me.

I am really looking forward to upcoming season with my new role and working with every single swimmer to make them better in and out of the pool. I am sure there will be plenty more amazing results and memories to be made.

I hope to see all swimmers on the 1st of May 2017 with spring in your step and a smile on your dial.

Yours in swimming,

Cameron Douglass.
